After passing the final oral examination, you will use the feedback from your committee to make final revisions to your thesis or dissertation manuscript and complete any remaining formatting requirements.

The Psychology Department adopts the procedure of holding a public defense for graduate students who are defending their dissertation projects. You may also invite family members and friends outside of the department. The defense should be scheduled for a two-hour period.
The final steps to earn the PhD have three core components, each with forms and procedures that must be followed, and in this order:
Psychology students typically complete written preliminary examinations by the start of their fourth year in the program. Leading up to this department-wide deadline, your area and/or advisor will establish the timeline and mechanisms for completing the written examination.
