Events have become more complex with the addition of virtual and hybrid options. The Communications Manager can provide you with assistance in planning your event to ensure that you have the best event possible. Contact Amanda Schmit (amsuchy@umn.edu).
Event Development
When developing an event there are many aspects to consider. Here are some key aspects to consider and supporting documents to assist.
- Accessibility & Inclusivity
- Modality (e.g., in-person, hybrid, virtual)
- Promotion (e.g., how, where, and to whom will you promote your event; what information is needed)
- Support (e.g., what support is needed before, during, and after to ensure a successful event?)
Event Access Checking Script
We have developed an accessibility check script that can be used at the start of every event. The script has been designed to ensure that our events are accessible to everyone.
To make the most of this new script, we request that you read the sections that are relevant to your specific event. This will help us to ensure that we are providing an inclusive experience to all of our attendees. If you need assistance in determining what sections are relevant to your specific event, please contact Amanda Schmit (amsuchy@umn.edu) for assistance.
Land Acknowledgement Statement
We recommend that the University Land Acknowledgement Statement be read before every event.
The University of Minnesota campuses were built on the traditional homelands of the Dakota and the Ojibwe, and scores of other Indigenous peoples who have walked on these lands from time immemorial. It is important to acknowledge the peoples on whose land we live, learn, and work as we seek to improve and strengthen our relations with our tribal nations. We also acknowledge that words are not enough. We must ensure that our institution provides support, resources, and programs that increase access to all aspects of higher education for our American Indian students, staff, faculty, and community members.
