The National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) is the country's oldest fellowship program that directly supports graduate students in various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. Since 1952, NSF has funded over 70,000 GRFPs out of more than 500,000 applicants. PhD students in the Department of Psychology have a long history of being awarded NSF GRFPs.
About
The purpose of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) is to help ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. A goal of the program is to broaden participation of the full spectrum of diverse talents in STEM. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
An NSF GRFP provides the student with a three-year annual stipend along with a cost of education allowance for tuition and fees, as well as access to opportunities for professional development available to NSF-supported graduate students.
Preparation
The Department of Psychology strongly encourages all of its graduate students to apply for an NSF GRFP in either their first or second year.
To assist with the preparation of these applications, the following two courses are offered each fall semester. Please check the University’s class schedule for details.
- CPSY/PSY 8101-001 (1 credit)
- CLA 8000-002 (1.5 credits)
