Data Security and HIPAA Training

All faculty, staff, and students who handle University data are required under University policy to comply with the following data privacy and security practices.

Data Security Training

The Department of Psychology, Twin Cities, UMN requires that all current lab members complete HIPAA training as described on the Health Information Privacy & Compliance Office website.  This includes all Psychology labs including those using non-HIPAA data.  This also includes students enrolled in Psy 4993/5993.

Human Subject Training

If you work directly with human subjects, you may need to complete training in the Responsible Conduct of Research.

Student Record Training

What about data privacy for student information (grades, enrollment)? For anyone working with student information, a tutorial on FERPA should be completed:  FERPA Training (ca. 15 min)

Additional Training

You may also be required to complete additional training. Refer to the Office of the Vice President’s (OVPR) website for more training information.
